YMCA Togo: When Social Justice Becomes a Community Mission

YMCA Togo: When Social Justice Becomes a Community Mission

As part of the Doin’it Right project, the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA Togo) continues its unwavering commitment to vulnerable youth through a unique training workshop for members of community legal clinics. From July 22 to 25, 2025, Bagbé becomes a hub of social innovation, welcoming 20 young paralegals from the five project intervention prefectures: Golfe, Lacs, Yoto, Zio, and Ogou.

The goal of this four-day gathering is to equip young people to defend rights and promote social justice.

Selected from their Local Unions, these youth are trained on key topics such as criminal law, mediation, child protection, gender, local governance, and paralegal ethics. Through interactive sessions, role-playing, and group work, they acquire the tools needed to become justice ambassadors within their communities.

For several years now, YMCA Togo has positioned itself as a leading actor in inclusive community development. Through its multisectoral projects, the organization reaches thousands of vulnerable youth, offering not only a space for listening but also concrete opportunities for growth and leadership.

With the establishment of community legal clinics, YMCA Togo goes beyond awareness it takes action. These spaces become centers for mediation, guidance, and peaceful conflict resolution, led by trained and committed youth. By strengthening their capacities, the organization empowers them to become peacebuilders and defenders of human rights. https://ymcatogo.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=3686&action=edit

At the end of the workshop, each group of paralegals leaves with an action plan for their site, ready to implement the knowledge gained from the training. YMCA Togo will thus have contributed to the creation of a network of young legal leaders, capable of transforming local realities through education, advocacy, and support.

Because an informed youth is an engaged citizen, YMCA Togo continues to sow the seeds of accessible, equitable, and community-based justice. We extend our sincere gratitude to KFUM Sverige and Horyzon – Power to the Young People for their financial support of this project.
